SHORT BIO FOR DR. GINA TEDDY (ESQ.)

Dr. Gina Teddy, Esq. is the Head of Department for the Department of Public Management and International Relations at the School of Public Service and Governance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). She is an expert in policy analysis, health systems and leadership and governance. She is also a lawyer although she considers herself an academic and leadership trainer. Dr. Teddy holds multiple roles as the lead for promoting systems thinking in Africa and the teaching of health systems and policy research globally.

She has been the co-chair for the teaching and Learning Thematic Working Group for Health Systems Global since 2018. She is the founder for the Centre for Health Systems and Policy Research (CHESPOR) at GIMPA. Gina coordinate health systems and Policy Research (HPSR) courses and provide capacity training programs targeting health managers and leaders at GIMPA and the University of the Western Cape’s School of Public Health Winter School. Gina is currently the SYSTAC Africa lead with the passion for promoting the use of systems thinking for practitioners, policymakers, frontline workers and researcher in Africa. She is also one of the leading executives of West African network of Leaders in Health Systems (WANEL).

Dr. Teddy completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Cape Town’s prestigious Health Policy and Systems Division in 2016 after her PhD at the University of York, England, UK. She holds a Masters and Bachelors in Sociology from the University of Ghana and her LLB in Law at GIMPA. She completed her Professional Law Course with the Ghana Law School following which she was called to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana. She also completed her LLM from the University of Ghana in Health Law and Bio-ethics.

Dr. Teddy has expertise in Health System and Policy Research (HPSR), governance & leadership, health management and capacity building, policy analysis and implementation science, health financing and inter-sectoral action and multi-disciplinarity, mental health and currently enjoying sessions in health law and ethics. Her work has since informed a wide range of actors in the health sector from global to district levels.
