Work History

Electrical Supervisor (control Room Operations)

  • As a marketing participant (MP) in the Ghana Wholesale energy market(GWEM) and West African Power Pool(WAPP), I coordinate with Gridco in the implementation of the Day ahead available declaration and the dispatch as scheduled
  • Significant technical knowledge of power systems, with particular reference to market design, transmission networks, and dispatching
  • Together with safety personnel, issue permits to work forms for field operators or maintenance staff to undertake Routine or scheduled maintenance work
  • Issue and fill out safety guarantee forms for Gridco staff during line work or maintenance of the transmission lines
  • Communicate with the systems control center (GridCo) to regulate and coordinate transmission loads and frequencies, and line voltages
  • Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostic procedures of equipment
  • Monitoring and recording operational data by station instructions and also sending hourly reports
  • Open and close valves and switches remotely in sequence upon information from maintenance staff, in order to start or shut down auxiliary units
  • Worked directly with the commissioning team on plant start-up troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Start or stop generators, pumps, Radiators, variable speed drives, etc
  • Take readings from charts, meters, and gauges at established intervals, and take corrective steps as necessary
  • Examine and test electrical power distribution machinery and equipment, using testing devices (insulation resistance and hi-pot testers, etc.)
  • Preparing of plant daily report which includes plant net production, plant gross production, fuel usage, generator running hours, generators availabilities etc
  • Together with representatives from GRIDCo, Energy trading and ECG, we prepare end-of-month billing sheets from our Two-way meters for stake holders perusal and payment.

  • Reading and interpreting of electrical drawings; Updating of cable schedules; Lead supervision on mounting and testing of 161kv station transformers and unit auxiliary transformers (11kv/6.6kv/2.1kv) for ALSTOM gas power plant 2x115MW; Coordinating BOP activities such as loop test, termination power and I & C cables and installation of panels
  • Scope of Work: HV Switch yards power supply 161kV, HV Main and auxiliary transformers 161kv/11kv and 11kv/6.6kv/2.1kv respectively, HV High voltage distribution panel 6.6Kv and marshalling box; Low voltage distribution panel 400V and charger UPS 230V; Gas Isolated Bus Bar Main breaker power generators; Lead supervision on ventilation and lighting system, firefighting and Earthling network system and cable routing HV- LV- I&C; Lead supervision on lighting, HAVAC, receptacles, Public Address system, routing of data/communication cables for the control and non-technical buildings.

  • Maintenance department: Advised district engineers accordingly after our daily load monitoring and inspection; Repair, maintenance and installation of all forms of transformers; Offered advisory services to companies on the appropriate use of their transformers; Performing of short /open circuit tests on general power equipment’s, such as transformers and switch gears.
