Study Title: Sulfadoxine Pyrimethamine (SP) Safety and Efficacy in Pregnant Women in Sunyani Township.

Research Project Title: Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Urinary Tract Pathogens in Female Outpatients of the Obstetrics Unit.
Supervisor: Mr. Alhassan Saeed (Assistant Lecturer, Accra Technical University)

  • Trained patients meeting inclusion criteria to collect midstream urine samples for analysis.
  • Guided patients on periurethral cleaning techniques for accurate sample collection.
  • Conducted macroscopic and dipstick urine analyses.
  • Performed microbiological cultures, including media preparation, bacterial isolation, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (e.g., coagulation, catalase, and urease tests).
    Conclusion: The study found that 33% of women attending the obstetrics unit experienced UTIs, with Staphylococcus aureus, Candida spp., and Escherichia coli identified as the most common pathogens. Among recovered isolates, amikacin demonstrated the highest efficacy.
