  • Supervision of a team of competent accountants in the treasury, credit control and account payable teams
  • Review of bank reconciliation statements
  • Reviewing, amending and posting all journals passed in accordance with IFRS after ascertaining that all journals have appropriate supporting documents
  • Ensuring proper tracking of Prepayments and Accruals
  • This involves keeping detailed schedules for both and raising journals each period to reflect the true position
  • Computing assets cost and capitalizing thereof
  • Capital Work In Progress (CWIP) is computed afterwards with monthly ageing and assets capitalized
  • Registration of capitalized assets in the Fixed Assets Register
  • This is done after tagging the asset with the company's tag
  • Computation of depreciation for each accounting period (month)
  • This is after all disposals, impairments and additions, if any
  • Extraction of the trial balance to prepare financial statement on monthly basis
  • Adjustments such as revaluation of foreign currency based liabilities is made; reclassification of transactions, where need be, is done
  • The financial statement is then presented to the finance team for further review and the resulting statement is translated into United States Dollars which is the company's secondary presentation currency
  • Preparation of comparative report on the financial statements for senior management
  • Ensuring performance of Reconciliation of Physical Counts Of Assets and Fixed Assets Register (FAR) at least once a Year
  • Preparing variance analysis report for the CEO on monthly basis
  • Organized all exhibits requested by the court for some suits; some of which were reports not readily available in the normal course of operation in the company
  • Personally picked cash sales from shops for a whole month (April 2018), spending almost the whole day to collect not less than a hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS100, 000), and personally lodging them in the bank account; when the company had Banking Issues
  • However, extra time was spent beyond office hours to meet deadlines in spite of the above
  • Has been the only person handling General Ledger and Fixed Assets accounting as a senior officer since November 2017
  • Before, it used to be manned by a manager and an officer

Accounts Payable

  • Accounting for all invoices after they have been approved by end user departments
  • This involves creating a liability in the accounts for the transaction; and recognizing all taxes as well
  • Accounting for all payments made in each period by preparing payment vouchers, writing cheques or preparing fund transfer letters or any other to facilitate the payment
  • After these, accounting entries are made to reflect the payment accordingly
  • Computation and filing of VAT and withholding tax for each period
  • Management of Petty Cash
  • This includes the disbursement of petty cash to authorized persons upon approval; writing of payment vouchers of each payment as well as accounting for the payment appropriately in the ERP
  • Vendor management
  • Creditors whose payment terms have been defaulted are met and managed by negotiating for alternative terms or timelines
  • The result of this is escalated to the Director of Treasury for planning and action
  • Reconciliation of vendor balance with vendor statement
  • On several occasions, major vendors like Mainone Cable Limited, HTG Helios Towers Limited and so on, threatened to suspend their services to Surfline due to nonpayment
  • I happen to be a part of the team to manage the situation
  • For instance, I once lobbied Mainone Cable limited to extend deadline when the Treasurer and CEO were not available though I was not a manager
  • When I left the Accounts Payable section, it took three accountants to fill gap created by my transfer
