LEADERSHIP AND VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

End schistosomiasis project, Volunteer Field Officer, Tomefa-Kasoa, Participated in community-based epidemiological survey on schistosomiasis (Bilharzia) prevalence in endemic fishing communities of Tomefa,Kasoa., Assisted with sample collection coordination, labelling, and proper documentation in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ethical protocol., Conducted field data collection including structured questionnaires, risk factor assessments, and WASH (Water, sanitation and Hygiene) evaluations., Engaged community members and local leaders to ensure participation and health education on transmission prevention., Skills Gained: Community Engagement, Clinical Data Collection, Sample Handling, Public Health Assessment

COMMUNITY RESEARCH

  • UDS, Level 100 (Diploma), Third Trimester Field Practical Program (TTFPP), Deasebe Community, Asunafu North Municipal District, Ahafo Region, 2021

Trimester 3 - Community Profiling, Employed qualitative research tools including transect walks, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and community mapping to identify prevailing health, agricultural and education challenges., Facilitated stakeholder engagement sessions with community leaders, households, and local institutions to identify priority needs., Compiled and submitted a structured community report to support long-term developmental planning.

  • UDS, Level 200 (Degree), Third Trimester Field Practical Program (TTFPP), Bakotido community, East Gonja Municipality, Savannah Region, 2023.

Trimester 3 – Problem Analysis & Solution Development, Analyzed data on endemic issues including water-borne diseases, limited access to portable water, poor sanitation, and agricultural productivity constraints., Collaborated with community members, opinion leaders, and assembly members to co-develop sustainable, low-cost intervention strategies and action plans., Compiled comprehensive technical report with evidence- based recommendations for local development planning and presented findings to local authorities and the university supervisors.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE AND PRESENTATION

  • Undergraduate Thesis, University for Development Studies [March,2024 –August, 2025]
  • Topic: Exploring the Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Properties of Lignin from shea Husk
  • Extracted and characterized lignin from shea husk, an abundant Agro-waste in northern Ghana, using Alkaline extraction method.
  • Evaluated Antioxidant activity via DPPH radical scavenging assay, total phenolic content determination using UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
  • Assessed antimicrobial efficacy against selected pathogenic bacterial strains using agar well diffusion and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) assays.
  • Demonstrated potential application of shea husk lignin as a natural, low-cost antioxidant and antimicrobial agent for pharmaceutical, food preservation and cosmetic industries.
  • Gained hands-on experience in aseptic technique, microbial culture, spectrophotometry and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Analysed and presented findings in a written thesis, contributing to knowledge on food safety and sustainable Agri-biotechnology solutions.
  • Diploma Long Essay, University for Development Studies [July,2022- september 2022]
  • Topic: Forensic Utility of Fungi Associated with Individuals
  • Investigated the forensic relevance of human mycobiome as potential trace evidence for criminal investigations and human identification.
  • Isolated and identified fungal species associated with human skin, clothing and personal belongings using standard mycological culture techniques (Sabouraud Dextrose Agar- SDA, Potato Dextrose Agar)
  • Standard. Characterized fungal isolates based on morphology features and microscopic examination using lactophenol cotton blue staining.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of forensic microbiology and microbial forensics.
  • Undergraduate and Diploma Research Presentation
  • Presented my undergraduate research project to faculty members and the entire class, demonstrating research findings, methodology, and scientific interpretation in an academic setting.
