I am currently supporting IFC FIG Practice Group leads on the workstreams linked to business development to unlock IFC's investment. I am working with FIG Advisory & Upstream principal operations officer, FIG Advisory & Upstream senior operations officer, FIG Mainstream senior investment officer, and IFC Ghana senior country officer, to: i) coordinate in-country activities; ii) design new advisory project and upstream initiatives; ii) develop project implementation plan, monitor project deliverables, key performance indicators (KPIs), and to implement overall country strategy.

1) Development Assignment at IFC Ghana Cluster: a) Currently support IFC Senior Country Manager, Senior country officer, FIG Advisory & Upstream team to implement Ghana Warehouse Receipt project; and b) contribute to developing relevant country strategy on access to finance and financial sector development, focusing on financial inclusion, MSME finance, banking on women, risk management, affordable housing, climate finance, digital financial services, agri-finance, secured transactions and collateral registry, and leasing business.


2) Lead the conceptualization and design of bankable advisory and upstream initiatives through on-going business development and client engagement led by FIG Senior IO for Ghana cluster.


5) Collaborate with FIG mainstream, MAS mainstream and upstream, INR team country office team to lead engagements with internal and external stakeholders to identify jv Upstream opportunities.


6) Produce thematic or sector insights/guides and dedicated stakeholders’ engagement to facilitate FIG Advisory & Upstream origination, implementation, and conversion to investment.

1) October 2020, my first IFC Financial Institutions Group Upstream project was approved, it was linked to an IFC senior loan investment of $10m in a foreign owned entity in Ethiopia.


2) March 2021 - INR $10million senior loan to Moove Nigeria – I was team member / Industry specialist.


3) November 2022 - FIG/MAS JV Upstream project for agricultural mechanization for small holder farmers was approved by MAS Director, Africa - The upstream jv was to identify and validate line of sight for IFC investment $100m.


4) Contributed to IFC's 3.0 strategy on creating markets and upstream initiatives in my focused countries (Gambia, Guinea. Liberia, Sierra Leone; and contributed in delivery IFC's 2.5 strategy on mainstream investment.

5) Led upstream initiatives, means proactively helping to stimulate and to create conditions that result in the movement of capital - private, domestic, and foreign, into productive investment in the above countries.


6) Led in designing and developing upstream approaches that are scalable in difficult countries (Guinea, Gambia Liberia, Sierra Leone).


7) Contributed in building IFC's recognition to catalyze flows of investment opportunities.


9) Developed feasibility studies for Ethiopia and implementation plans for Upstream projects.


10) Spot game-changing trends, technologies and business models that can bring solutions to emerging markets.

Senior Financial Sector Specialist

1) Designed and implemented scalable advisory solutions and platforms that were replicated in Ethiopia, Guinea, Gabon and Burkina Faso.


2) Mobilized $1.9m from Multi Donor Initiative (Italy, Britain, Netherlands) to developed a new project (ALF Ethiopia). I led engagements with relevant stakeholders like central banks to uncover needs through strategic analysis to align with IFC country strategies.


Sector Engagements

3) Identified and helped implement sector and regulatory reforms (Gabon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cameroun) that are needed to unlock opportunities for private investment.


4) Partner with WBG to develop concept for the WB SME Finance project of $200m for Ethiopia which was approved in 2017, and participated in providing input to development of sector-specific development strategies for the Government of Ethiopia's 5-year growth and development plan 2.


Project Facilitation and Strategic Interactions

5) Facilitated knowledge flow across IFC and the WBG and promoted new approaches and best practices which was deployed to provide technical assistance to the Development Bank of Ethiopia and regional leasing entities in Ethiopia.


6) Connected expertise from investment and advisory staff, external partners and international consultants to projects and initiatives across the regions.


7) Participated in high level initiatives and engagements with relevant stakeholders to uncover and address expected reforms through strategic analysis, including IFC's country strategies and Country Private Sector Development plan (Nigeria).

In the past 10+ years at IFC, my contribution to IFC’s 2.5 and 3.0 strategy has been shaped by the learning opportunities and knowledge exchange I have received through trainings, business development collaboration with investment colleagues in INR, MAS and FIG, upstream trainings, coaching and mentorship from several managers - the most recent (Jan to Dec 2021) is coaching and mentoring I received from Olaf Schmidt (Manager, IFC MAS Africa).
