Impairments management

  • Monthly impairment assessment of Banks total assets through impairment models.
  • Reviewing adequacy of provisions held against all assets and taking corrective measures.
  • Periodic review of Impairment models to ensure compliance to all regulatory and Financial Standards

Systems and Processes

  • Constantly reviewing accounting Standards to ensure reports are prepared in line with current and revised standards
  • Robust testing of new systems and software to ensure it fully meet user requirements and functionality
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and supervisory requirements, to protect the Bank's and avoid legal action / sanctions

Portfolio Quality

  • Monitoring Credit portfolio performance though monitoring metrics such as Pre-NPL%, NPL%, Credit Loss ratio and Provision adequacy
  • Ensure sufficient processes are in place to maintain data integrity
  • Periodic review of system classification of assets
  • This ensures accurate reporting of portfolio quality

New Products

  • Setting new product parameters and monitoring performance of same
  • Setting risk appetite limits per products, segments, and sectors
  • Review of limits to ensure compliance and prescribe remedial actions in the event of breaches

Reporting

  • Compilation of monthly Credit Portfolio review reports for management decisions making and subsequent inclusion into Board and Group reports
  • Monthly submission of Credit reports to the Central Bank
  • Provision of in-depth data analysis and commentary on historical and forecast trends to management

Forecasting

  • Developing robust stress tests to highlight inherent risks embedded in the portfolio and putting in place adequate mitigating actions
  • This also provides management with enough information to make decisions in the event risks crystallize
  • Yearly budget preparation for assets, impairments, and other risk metrics with periodic review of same, inline with changes in the macro and micro-environment factors that impacts business operations
  • Monthly comparison of budgets to actual with in-depth explanations and remedial actions for deviations

Assets Management and Recovery

  • Provide Business teams with frequent update of the Performing loan portfolio (USD973m), highlighting delinquent loans to assist in proactive early arrears management to prevent defaults.
  • Work with Business Support and Recoveries team in the management and recovery of Non-Performing Loans Portfolio (USD382m) through negotiated settlements and legal suits.
  • Work with external solicitors on legal recovery suits by providing client and account details and any other information needed in the litigation process.
  • Collate accounts due for write off in line with Internal credit Policy and Regulatory guidelines for submission to the Board of Directors and subsequently to the Central Bank for their respective approvals.

Additional Duties

  • Member, Internal Financial Control (IFC)– A forum to discuss and find solutions to all actual and potential risks the bank is exposed to from control failures and lapses.
  • Member, Credit Risk Management Committee (CRMC) – Committee to discuss performance of credit risk portfolio.
