Theatre recovery
- Assess airway, breathing, and circulation (ABC) immediately the patient arrives in the unit.
- Administering oxygen using the venturi mask.
- Maintaining continuous infection practices at the unit throughout the year by:
a. Daily cleaning and dusting of the ward environment and all equipment.
b. Wear protective clothing such as a cap, scrub, and face mask.
c. Proper segregation and disposal of waste by using designated bins (yellow,black, and red). Also dispose of sharps in the appropriate box. - Ensuring therapeutic and safe environment for patient's, staff , and relatives by;
a. Arranging in order all gadgets and equipment at the unit.
c. Checking that all beds and side rails are in good condition before admitting the patient to prevent falls at all times when on duty.
d. Assisting patient's to ambulate when time is due to prevent patient's from falling and also prevent deep vein thrombosis. - Managing pain promptly postoperatively using a scale of 0-10 throughout the year.
- Administering prescribed medications at the right time.
Male medical ward
- Feeding patient with nasogastric tube insitu in an upright position to prevent aspiration.
- Care for the chest tube, taking into consideration the amount, color, and consistency of the fluid drained.
- Take the patient to the radiology department for radiological images and send them back to the ward.
- Administer prescribed medications using the six rights (right patient, right medicine, right dose, right time, right route, right documentation).
- Care for pressure sores using the prescribed solution.
- Barrier nursing by isolating and keeping patients with similar conditions under the same roof to prevent the spread of airborne and other infectious diseases.
- Administering oxygen using non-rebreather on patients with less than 90% saturation level and nasal prongs for patients whose spo2 is below 95%.
- Transfusing 20 patients whole blood per month by considering batch number, collection date, and expiry. Educating patient's that receive blood on transfusion reactions and the need to report for immediate intervention.
