Organised and managed program developments from conception through successful execution. I was one of a small team that researched, wrote and submitted the bid that won the city of Port Harcourt its nomination as UNESCO World Book Capital 2014. I recommeded a pilot implementation of selected programmes and the lessons learnt from this contributed to the sucessful roll out of the 2014 programmes.


Provided ongoing direction and leadership for various program operations: Workbook production for over 100 book titles for the book clubs in schools programme, The Songhai12; a Writers Residency Program, Selection, sourcing and purchasing of thousands of books required for the book clubs, overseeing and participating in the monthly adult book reading and drama adaptation of the book of the month.


Communication and Branding

Was involved in all discussions and decisions on project branding and written communication about the project to stakeholders and on digital/ traditional media; wrote reports, news articles, adverts, jingles and website content. Was the Secretary to the Port Harcourt UNESCO World Book Club organising committee which was chaired by the Deputy Governor of the State and comprised of government officials as well as 3 members of the project team..


Stakeholder Engagement and Management

Onboarded and liaised with numerous project stakeholders for the entire project life cycle, revising MOUs, providing programe updates and feedback to Government officials, writers, schools, institutions of higher learning, book sellers and publishers. Also participated in the writing of the final and mid project report to UNESCO and other stakeholders.

  • Port Harcourt Book Festival (PHBF), Worked as Communications Manager and Book Fair Manager at the annual PHBF. The festival was an annual event that brought book lovers, writers, publishers and sellers from different parts of the world together to have discussions and do business about/around books.
  • Monthly Book Club Reading, Selected a Book-Of-the-Month(BOTM) and organised/ facilitated book readings, organised quarterly readings with the author of the BOTM. Wrote news articles on the readings, anchored meet-the-author sessions, took pictures for the press and websites. Operated the Rainbow Bookshop; sales, stock taking and restocking.
  • Get Nigeria Reading Again!, Organised the annual Get Nigeria Reading Again program and the leaders read events.
  • Represented the organisation in other writer/book related events in the state as well as nationally.

Reading, writing and travel

I love reading African literature and have been fortunate to meet some of Africa's great writers like Prof Wole Soyinka, Cpt. Elechi Amadi, Mama Atido and Ngugi wa Thiongo. I am an aspiring novelist and also do freelance writing/editing for friends and colleagues. I love to visit new places and would like to visit more destinations in Africa.
