  • A questionnaire was developed to assess the knowledge and awareness of final year nursing students on antimicrobial resistance and local and global strategies for the containment of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
  • The study employed a non-probabilistic purposive sampling method to recruit 61 4th year nursing students (n(females) = 44; n(males) = 17).
  • The data collection instrument utilized queried respondents on their demographic, knowledge of AMR, awareness of AMR and a knowledge of the containment strategies for AMR
  • The results obtained indicate that nursing students have an adequate knowledge on antimicrobial resistance and the containment strategies and awareness of the detrimental effects of antimicrobial resistance on the health system.
  • However, the respondents had poor knowledge of the local and global policy documents outlining the strategies for containment of AMR.
