Departmentdescription
I have worked at the Surgical department since January, 2016. The department is a 70-bed capacity. It conforms to the Ministry of Health Standard set up, as it has an ambulance bay, wound dressing area, sterilisation room, treatment area and emergency Area, theatres, Recovery rooms and wards. The Surgical department is the only referral center for all other communities in the North East, Savanna, Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong Ahafo regions of Ghana thus accept all forms of Surgical cases for management. The facility manages Surgical emergencies such as, septic shock, Urinary emergencies, management of chest traumas, haemothorax, pleural effusion, Diabetic ketoacidosis, severe dehydration, cardiac arrhythmias, suturing of major lacerations and other repairs, history taking and head-to-toe assessment of cases. The Surgical department has cardiac monitors, ECG machine, pulse oximeter, suction machine, ultrasound machines, infusion pumps, perfusers, etc.
